Long Table Lunch

Long Table LunchSlow Food PerthA Home Grown Feast - a long table Festival of the Wind luncheon in association with Slow Food Perth – celebrating the best of local, seasonal produce and the international organisation, Slow Food
Come along and experience a taste sensation where Italian Chef Vincenzo Velletri (web page) will use a range of local produce to manipulate a four course manifesto – literally straight from the fire into the pan and onto your plate!
From octopus, olives and scallops, local salmon, sardines and woodfired baked breads – the centre of the lunch will be a creation from local lamb – “Korong Dohne’s” and will culminate with a honey exclamation that will delight and tickle the senses.

The principles of this world wide organisation are underpinned by access to good, clean and fair food – so come along and find out what they do!
Peter Coppin and Garry Heady – presenters from the Creative Gardens Workshops will also be there to linger at the lunch to chat and answer any garden creation questions you may have!! We will also be auctioning a piece of work by an Esperance artist.

Xave Brown (and Band)

Xave Brown Heralding from the South West of WA, Xave Brown is a contemporary singer songwriter of subtle, complex and powerful music. Xave finely crafts his songs with layers of rhythm, intricate finger picking, and vocals that at times can be as sweet as honey, then wild and passionate like the sea, then haunting as the wind. Xave voyages into the intimate and mellow as easily as the upbeat and danceable. Likened at times to Damien Rice, Ben Harper and Gomez, Xave cites his influences from a more vintage line of inspiration - Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits.

Xave is playing regular gigs on the local circuit as well as at major festivals and is keeping good company, Xave has supported some highly esteemed musicians such as Paul Kelly, The John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Carus, Nathan Gaunt, Andrew Winton and Snowman. Xave has toured with The Kill Devil Hills, Ruby's Grace and been part many WA.

Blue Shaddy

Blue Shaddy Western Australian outfit Blue Shaddy have started to attract a lot of positive national attention. Blue Shaddy are a high energy live act with spontaneous dance grooves, an invigorating burst of Blues / Roots & Funk with a Surf edge. The band reached number 1 on the Perth Indie Charts in May 2007, received a Best Instrumentalist Award (Belly McClelland) at the 2007 Blues at Broadbeach Awards in the same month, and then in November took out the 2007 MusicOz Blues & Roots Artist. Plus, the word of mouth on their amazing live show saw Blue Shaddy gain invitations to most of the major music festivals on offer.
2008, and that attention is set to grow further, with Blue Shaddy releasing their fourth album and best yet. With multi instrumentalist and band member Arun Satgunasingam in the producer's seat, the aim was to capture the raw, infectious energy and exuberance that is synonymous with Blue Shaddy.

Making Movies logoOur Stories Made By Us

The Festival of the Wind 2009 Committee has been successful in securing the teaching talents of the Fremantle Film and Television Institute’s Making Movies Roadshow Team to come down to Esperance to conduct a digital filmmaking workshop to the indigenous students at Wongutha CAPS.

The Making Movies Roadshow program will provide film skills training, education and cultural benefits to the students, but most importantly the project will build self-esteem within the Wongutha community through capturing and sharing the school’s unique stories on film and assisting in the preservation of our region’s unique indigenous heritage.

Esperance Art Trail
Art Trail logoEsperance is undoubtedly guilty- why else would a larger amount of artists be living here in Esperance than any other places around Australia per capita. It's  beautiful landscape and relaxing atmosphere is so conducive to creativity and inspiration in all its art forms, is the reason why Esperance is an artists' magnet.
The Esperance Art Trail has been designed to showcase these artists' work and provide an opportunity for a guided tour around their private and public galleries; purchase the unique artwork on display to enrich your Esperance experience and bring a little of the artists world into yours.
Esperance Community Arts in partnership with Festival of the Wind want to offer you the chance to get in touch with our artists by getting on the looping bus that will stop at all galleries on the trail. Take this chance and get to know YOUR local artist.

Town Banners

Reconnecting Community with Environment

Carrying on from the great response we had from the successful Town Banners Painting Project earlier this year during the Wetlands Festival, the Esperance Regional Forum has generously offered to once again fund this interactive and colourful public art display of environmental celebration, for the 2009 Festival of the Wind.

Students and local artists will be given a blank triangular canvas to create an image, which represents the natural beauty of the Esperance region. These banners will then be displayed in the main streets of town for all to see during the festival and in its lead up – helping to set a bright, ‘festive’ atmosphere for all to enjoy.
