About the Festival of the Wind 2011 Logo
I almost unintentionally moved to Esperance several years ago and began a Graphic Art course at what was then the Curtin University campus here, and Iʼve been working as a graphic artist ever since.
I have a particular interest in photography and whenever I can create an artwork that can take a picture from being mere photo-documentation and make it into something unique itʼs especially satisfying, and I feel that the 2011 Festival Of The Wind logo is a good example of that.
Iʼve done several community-based projects in the past and have been associated with the Festival Of The Wind before, having won the competition for the 2005 logo and the design that I submitted for the 2009 event being chosen to represent the “Transcendance” component of that yearʼs Festival.

In 2008 a design of mine was chosen for Curtin Universityʼs “Phantasmagoria” show, and I have done several projects for natural resource management groups based in Esperance, notably the design of four festival flags created to celebrate “The Year Of The Wetland” in that year.
Additionally Iʼve completed work for other major organisations and businesses in town, creating logos, business cards, stationery suites and brochures to suit clientʼs varied needs.
This May I was lucky enough to be invited to co-exhibit painted and photographic artworks with two other local artists in the “Triptych” exhibition at the Innerspace Gallery; Iʼll also be contributing photographic images to another exhibition which is coming up in mid December at the Cannery.
Iʼve been hired a few times recently to do events photography too, though Iʼm at pains to point out to clients that Iʼm an artist more than a photographer and so staged mugshots arenʼt really my forte; so far theyʼve all been very happy with the results though so I think Iʼm doing a good job of it!
Amid all these exciting projects Iʼm raising two children here in Esperance and enjoying as much of the active, outdoor lifestyle on offer here as possible. Not only is the landscape and itʼs light inspiring creatively, but the community that we feel we are a part of sustains and inspires us.
Itʼs a wonderful place to live, and itʼs my hope that we come together for the 2011 Festival Of The Wind and take the opportunity to celebrate our community and all the things that are special about it.
